Home Buyers

What should I do if the home inspection finds mold?

Clarify the location, apparent extent, moisture source, and inspection limitations before negotiating. A mold finding does not automatically mean the entire house needs remediation or that you must walk away.

What to consider

Request photos and the written findings. Ask whether the concern is confirmed visible growth, suspected growth, or a damp condition that needs investigation. Those are different starting points.

If cleanup is recommended, seek qualified contractor proposals with a defined scope and a plan to address moisture. An independent assessment can help explain what the evidence supports.

Discuss repairs, credits, further investigation, and timing with your agent. Financing and contract rules may affect the available options; our assessment is not legal or mortgage advice.
