Should I buy a house that had mold in the past?
Past mold does not by itself determine whether a house is a good purchase. What matters is what caused it, what was done, whether the moisture source was corrected, and what the current conditions show.
What to consider
Ask for documentation of leaks, cleanup scope, repairs, and any follow-up assessment. A record of spraying or painting alone does not explain whether damp materials or the water source were addressed.
Review the accessible area for current moisture, visible growth, and odors. Neither a previous lab result nor a favorable inspection can guarantee future conditions throughout the property.
Use the assessment with your budget, contractor advice where needed, and your agent's guidance. The goal is a better-informed decision, not a universal yes or no based on the word mold.
